Before you start removing apps or making changes to your laptop, there’s one simple thing you should do first.
Create a system restore point.
It gives you a way to roll your system back if something breaks.
Here’s how to set it up—and how to use it if you need it.
How to Create a System Restore Point
- Click Start and type Create a restore point
- Select it from the results
- Under Protection Settings, select your system drive (usually C:)
- Click Configure
- Select Turn on system protection
- Click OK
- Click Create
- Enter a name (example: Before app cleanup)
- Click Create again
Done.
How to Restore Your System
If something goes wrong, you can roll your system back to that restore point.
- Click Start and type Create a restore point
- Open it
- Click System Restore
- Click Next
- Select your restore point
- Click Next → Finish
Your laptop will restart and begin the restore process.
What a Restore Point Does (and Doesn’t Do)
A restore point will:
- restore system settings
- undo recent changes
- help fix issues caused by installs or updates
A restore point will not:
- delete your personal files
- remove documents, photos, or saved data
When You Should Create One
- before uninstalling apps
- before installing new software
- before making system changes
It takes less than a minute and can save you a lot of time later.
Final Thought
This is one of those small steps that makes a big difference.
If something goes wrong, you’ll be glad you took the extra minute.
